Further Afield

Whilst you are in Alhaurín el Grande, why not travel a little further afield and visit the following areas. You will soon see what a wide variety of tastes Andalucía caters to.
RONDA
The town Ronda is one of the most popular visitor destinations in Andalucía. It stands on a towering plateau, which is divided in two by a plunging river gorge known as El Tajo. El Tajo is spanned by a bridge called the Puente Nuevo which was built in the eighteenth century and provides access to both sides of Ronda. On one side of the bridge is the old Moorish town with many historic buildings, including the “House of the Moorish King”. On the other side you will find El Mercadillo, a more recent urban development. The bull ring is the oldest, most beautiful and also has the largest arena in Spain. Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles resided in Ronda for many years, and both wrote about its beauty. RONDA TOURIST BOARD OFFICIAL WEBSITE
SEVILLA
Sevilla (English tourists tend to say "Seville") is located the provincial capital, seat of the government and parliament of the Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía (Regional Government). When you visit this city, you are in the very heart of Andalucian culture, the centre of bullfighting and Flamenco music. The "Plaza de España" has become even more famous in recent years thanks to the huge following of the "Star Wars" saga. The palace of Queen Amidala (Padme) is actually this beautiful plaza in Sevilla, (with some CGI added in for good measure). Take time out, as Andalucians do and interrupt sightseeing from time to time to have a few "tapas", those typical "small Spanish dishes", and a glass of Sherry wine in one of the probably thousands of bars in this city. MÁLAGA
The city of Málaga is capital of the province and is worth visiting. It is famous for it raisins and Málaga Dulce one of its many superb wines. A must see in the town is the cathedral at the Plaza de la Cathedral which along with the cathedral of Sevilla, Granada and Jaén, is one of the four most important of its kind. Pablo Picasso, one of the most famous sons of the town has a museum dedicated to his works and the Foundation Picasso situated at the house where he was born. The Paseo del Parque pathway leads you from the Plaza de Marina to the bullfighting arena. It lies beneath the castle de Alcazaba where you can get a glimpse into the past with a visit to the museums and the remains of the roman theatre. The bullring and harbour are both impressive. There are so many places to visit, parks to enjoy and café terraces to pass the time away partaking in the tapas and a glass of that famous wine. MALAGA TOURIST BOARD OFFICIAL WEBSITE

MIJAS PUEBLO
As well as being one of the most attractive places in the south of Spain and having spectacular views over the Costa del Sol, Mijas Pueblo is an Andalucian ‘white village’ in that it conserves its essentially Arabic mediaeval layout and so has a slightly exotic feel about it that visitors find hard to pin down. Mijas is perhaps most famous for its burro-taxis, donkey taxis, which are to be found throughout the village and town square. It has become home to many writers and artists who display their works in a lovely variety of artisan shops dotted throughout the village. There is also a beautiful bullring which has a bullfighting museum. MIJAS OFFICIAL WEBSITE

GRANADA
The main reason that so many people come to Granada is to experience its rich and varied history. The city of Granada has been shaped by the hills, where the old districts in the Albaicín and the Alhambra were founded, brimming with steep, narrow streets, beautiful nooks and crannies, and marvellous landscapes. It's easy to walk through all the different districts, past the well-preserved historic buildings, and imagine yourself living in an earlier and more exotic time. The most evocative sight is undoubtedly the Alhambra, a complex of marvellous Moorish buildings on a hill that includes a fortress, palaces and gardens, built during the city's golden age. The Cathedral is a spectacular example of Renaissance architecture and really is worth a visit. GRANADA TOURIST BOARD OFFICAL WEBSITE
